Rare figurative spoon – Boa – Congo DRC

1st half 20th century – Vintage – used with visible signs of wear

Provenance: private collection, Belgium.
Dimensions: 21.5 cm.
Materials: wood, beads.

Boa art is known for its famous Pongdudu masks, easily recognisable by their rounded and pierced ears, framing the head. The magnificent spoon for sale here consists in a figure with a head identical to that of the Pongdudu masks.

This is a unique object, we are not aware of other items of this type.
A bead is inlaid in each orbit. Perfect state of preservation.
Smooth patina. Very thin scarifications ornament the figure’s chest, have a look at the pictures.

Exceptional piece, not to be missed.
